At the age of 15 I decided to create my non profit, Girls Above Society. I had several friends who thought it was weird (Those who were negative fell off the friends list quickly). The hard work and effort really paid off and I am so glad I get to see Girls Above Society move forward & empower more girls each year.
The journey wasn't always fun or easy. There were times I hit a wall and couldn't find the traction. There were times that I felt alone while my friends posted on social media about all the fun times they were having. One thing I have learned is that if you have a passion, don't allow anyone to measure its worth. I used my inner Girl Power and only allowed those who supported me into my small circle. Yes, it was lonely at times, but when I think of all the girls who gain confidence and found their self worth because of Girls Above Society, everything else seems so small.
Anything worth doing comes with challenges. It's how we choose to face them that defines us and oftentimes, we surprise ourselves of just how strong we can be. Today, I still use that same inner Girl Power to reach goals big or small. When I am having a rough day, I lean on those I admire and love who remind me of the purpose in what can seem at the time - a big huge mess! Now, go out there and do YOU. Nix the Negativity & Naysayers! We're too busy doing awesome stuff. XOXO Lauren
